Title: Beyblade - Heavy Metal Storm | Chapter 4
Chapter 4: Shadows of the Black Forest
(Narrator: Ray Kon)
The flight to Germany was enveloped in a suffocating silence, a stark contrast to the usual chaotic energy that filled any room containing the Bladebreakers. I sat by the window of the BBA jet, staring out into the endless sea of dark clouds. The faint, rhythmic tapping of Kenny’s fingers on his keyboard was the only sound keeping the heavy dread at bay.
Tyson was slumped in his seat, his hat pulled low over his eyes, but his hands were clenched so tightly into fists that his knuckles were white. Max was staring at a blank screen on his portable console, his usual bright optimism overshadowed by the haunting image of Kai’s battered face we had seen on the transmission.
"I've finished the modifications," Kenny announced suddenly, his voice cracking slightly. He pushed his glasses up his nose and turned to face us.
"The data Kai managed to encrypt and send through that busted signal gave me a rough idea of what we're up against. These Metal Monarchy aren't just using heavier alloys, they are using a synthetic resonance frequency that disrupts our bit-beasts' natural connection to the blader."
I leaned forward, my pulse quickening. "Can we counter it?"
"I've designed something specifically for you, Ray," Kenny said, opening a small metallic briefcase. Resting inside was a gleaming, newly forged piece of Beyblade machinery.
"I call it the 'Apex Claw Core.' It’s a customized spin gear and base hybrid. It features a micro-suspension system utilizing kinetic-dampening springs. If their blades try to absorb your energy or hit you with overwhelming weight, the suspension will compress, absorb the shock, and redirect that kinetic force straight into Driger’s Attack Ring for an explosive counter-strike."
I took the part, feeling its pristine, balanced weight in my palm. It was a masterpiece of engineering.
"Thanks, Chief. I'll make sure it gets a proper field test."
By the time we landed in Germany, a torrential downpour had begun. We rented an off-road jeep, with Max taking the wheel as we navigated the treacherous, winding roads deep into the heart of the Black Forest. The ancient trees towered over us like silent sentinels, their twisted branches clawing at the stormy sky.
Eventually, the muddy road gave way to cobblestone, and the massive, jagged silhouette of a ruined gothic castle emerged from the thick fog.
"This is it," Tyson growled, stepping out of the jeep and pulling Dragoon from his pocket.
"Kai's in there. I can feel it."
"Hold up, Tyson," I cautioned, stepping in front of him. My senses, honed from years in the White Tiger Village, were screaming at me. The shadows between the crumbling stone pillars were too thick, too deliberate.
"We have company.", I said.
From the mist emerged a towering figure clad in heavy, tactical armor painted in gunmetal grey and sickly neon green. He wore a visor that completely obscured his eyes, and his mouth was twisted into a cruel, arrogant smirk.
"So, the legendary Bladebreakers have arrived," the man sneered, his voice amplified by a modulator.
"I am Krieger, Vanguard of the Metal Monarchy. You're too late. The mutation process has already begun inside the castle."
"Step aside, Krieger," I said, my voice dangerously low. I slotted the Apex Claw Core into Driger, locking the pieces together with a satisfying click. "Or I'll go right through you."
"Big words for a relic!" Krieger unclipped a massive, jagged Beyblade from his belt. Its attack ring was covered in serrated, asymmetrical blades that looked designed to tear plastic and metal to shreds.
"Let me take him, Ray!" Tyson yelled, stepping forward.
"No," I replied, extending an arm to stop him. I looked at the uneven, debris-littered cobblestone courtyard.
"This terrain is too unpredictable for Dragoon's flat rubber tip right now. Driger's agility is what we need. I've got this."
Tyson hesitated, then nodded, stepping back with Max and Kenny.
Krieger and I took our stances at opposite ends of a sunken, bowl-like depression in the courtyard, an impromptu stadium of ancient stone and rain.
"Three!" we shouted in unison.
"Two!"
"One!"
"Let it Rip!"
Both Beyblades hit the stone with the force of a thunderclap. Krieger’s blade, which he called Toxic Fenrir, immediately began to grind against the cobblestone, carving deep gouges into the rock. It was incredibly heavy, moving with a terrifying, unstoppable momentum.
"Tear him apart, Fenrir!" Krieger roared.
Toxic Fenrir charged directly at Driger. The impact was deafening. Sparks rained down like fireworks in the gloomy forest. I felt the shockwave travel all the way up my arm. Krieger’s blade was absurdly heavy, and under normal circumstances, Driger would have been knocked off balance.
But Kenny's new part worked flawlessly. As Fenrir slammed into my blade, the Apex Claw Core compressed. I could hear the microscopic springs taking the brunt of the assault.
"Now, Driger! Push back!" I commanded.
The suspension snapped back into place. The stored kinetic energy exploded outward, throwing Toxic Fenrir back several feet. Krieger’s smirk vanished, replaced by a scowl of frustration.
"Lucky trick! But you can't outlast a mutated beast! Arise, Toxic Fenrir!"
A pillar of sickly green light erupted from his Beyblade. The air grew thick and foul-smelling as a massive, horrifying bit-beast materialized. It resembled a giant wolf, but its fur was replaced by overlapping plates of corroded metal, and venomous green saliva dripped from its metallic jaws, hissing as it hit the wet stones.
"You call that an abomination a bit-beast?" I shouted, my eyes narrowing. I felt the familiar, burning spirit of my partner resonating in my very soul.
"I'll show you the power of a true sacred beast! Go, Driger!"
A blinding flash of pure, green lightning shattered the gloom of the courtyard. The majestic form of the White Tiger leaped from my Beyblade, roaring with a ferocity that shook the ancient trees. The storm above seemed to answer Driger's call, thunder rumbling in perfect synchronization with its roar.
"Fenrir, Venomous Bite!" Krieger commanded.
The metallic wolf lunged, its jaws unhinging to an unnatural degree, aiming straight for Driger’s neck.
"Driger, use the terrain! Apex Lightning!"
Using the incredible grip and suspension of the new base, Driger's physical blade bounded off a protruding cobblestone, launching itself into the air. In the spirit realm, the White Tiger mirrored the movement, leaping gracefully over the lunging metal wolf.
Driger jumped and moved away from Fenrir. With a swipe of its massive paw, crackling with raw, unbridled electrical energy, Driger struck the wolf's flank.
The physical Beyblades mimicked the clash. Driger crashed down from above, its Tungsten-Alloy Attack Ring smashing directly onto the top of Toxic Fenrir.
Krieger screamed as his connection to his synthetic beast was disrupted. The green aura flickered wildly.
"No! My blade is forged from the ancient tablets! It cannot break!"
"A Beyblade's true power doesn't come from stolen data or synthetic mutations!" I yelled, throwing my hand forward.
"It comes from the bond between the blader and their bit-beast! Driger, finish this! Tiger Claw Thunder Slash!"
Driger let out a final, earth-shattering roar. It charged forward, bathed in a vortex of blinding white lightning. The White Tiger slashed its claws in an X formation. The attack tore through the holographic form of Toxic Fenrir, completely dissipating the green energy into the wind.
Down in the stone dish, Driger delivered a devastating upper-smash. Toxic Fenrir was launched dozens of feet into the air before crashing violently against a stone pillar, bursting into three separate pieces of smoking metal.
Driger spun gracefully back to my hand, the metal warm and humming with victory.
Krieger fell to his knees, staring in disbelief at his shattered Beyblade. Tyson didn't waste a second, sprinting past the defeated guard and kicking the heavy wooden doors of the castle open.
"Kai! We're coming!" Tyson's voice echoed into the dark, cavernous depths of the ruins.
I clipped Driger to my belt, my heart pounding. The first obstacle was cleared, but the dark, oppressive energy radiating from deep within the castle told me that the true nightmare of the Metal Monarchy was only just beginning. We stepped into the darkness together, ready to bring our friend home.
